Barbara J. Mclenahan

Barbara J. McLenahan, 91, of Freeport, IL, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2023, at FHN Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. She was born on February 16, 1932, in Freeport, IL, to Arthur and Catherine (Oberhart) Vickrey. Barb was a 1950 graduate of Aquin High School. On February 4, 1956, she married James McLenahan in Freeport, IL. They celebrated 67 years of marriage together. Barb was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Freeport, where she was the church secretary for 28 years. Throughout her life, she was devoted to her faith, while serving the church in multiple ways, including the prayer chain and Perpetual Adoration. She enjoyed reading, listening to music, shopping, animals, attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, and spending time with her entire family.

She is survived by her husband, Jim, of Freeport; two daughters, Kelley (Robert) Untersee of Freeport and Kim (Robert) Witwer of Phoenix, AZ; sister Betty Walls of Gaylord, MI; three grandchildren, Elyssa (Alex) Zajeski, Matt Witwer, and Kevin (Meghan) Witwer; two great-grandchildren, Kendra and Kyler Witwer; and many nieces and nephews.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Jimmy.

Memorial mass will be 10:30 A.M. Monday October 16, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Matthew J. McMorrow officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of mass. Burial of cremated remains will be at Calvary Cemetery in Freeport. A memorial has been established in Barb’s memory. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Winn Prairie family for their care and compassion throughout Barb’s residence.
