Barbara Ann Coomber

Barbara Ann Coomber, 83, of Lena IL and a former Freeport, Il resident, passed away Wednesday November 16, 2022 at Lena Living center. She was born March 27, 1939 in Freeport, IL, the daughter of Thomas and Roberta (Gitz) Medeke. Barb married Gerald Coomber June 1, 1957 in Lena, IL; he passed away March 31, 1990. Barb was a daycare provider for many years. She loved her vacations to Puerto Vallarta with close friends, Burr Valley with family, and Orange Beach for the winter. She was a seamstress in her early days, and an avid bowler on the woman's league. Barb is survived by her sister Sharon (Bob) Thomas of Lena, IL; brother, Gene(Terry Henry) Medeke of Platteville,WI; children Brett (Sue) Coomber of McFarland, WI, Bridget Ann (George) Stray of Lakewood, IL, Stacy (Brendan) Beggin of Crystal Lake, IL, Renee Chenong of Freeport, IL and Matthew Coomber of Rock Falls, IL; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Barb was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gerald Coomber, and her in-laws Melvin and Doris Coomber. A funeral mass will be held 10:30 A.M. Tuesday November 22, 2022 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Fr. Peter Snieg officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7:00 P.M. Monday November 21, 2022 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport, with a rosary service beginning at 3:30 P.M. There will also be a visitation from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport, IL. A memorial has been established for Breast Cancer Awareness and St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Barb's memory.
