Arthur L. Smetzler Jr.

Arthur L. Smetzler Jr., 77, of Freeport, died, Thursday March 3, 2016 in his home. Arthur was born on October 28, 1938 in Ridott, the son of Arthur and Elsie (Strong) Smetzler Sr. Arthur married Elizabeth Welch on October 15, 1966 in Rockton, Illinois. Arthur served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1963. He worked for the City of Freeport-Street Department and Sauer Sundstrand. He was a member of Community Reformed Church. Arthur enjoyed watching NASCAR and the Chicago Cubs. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Smetzler of Freeport; daughter, Deborah (Willie) Kreeger of Freeport; sister, Mary Benoodt of Freeport; two grandchildren, Sarah (Corey) Watter and William (Kimberly Levitski) Kreeger; two great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Bentley Watter. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother and sister. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday March 9, 2016 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday 4:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. also at Burke Tubbs. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established in Arthur's memory.
