Arthur (Art) LeRoy Armagost Jr. passed away on February 8, 2021. He was born on November 8, 1926 in Florence Station, IL to Arthur LeRoy Armagost Sr. and Ida Amelia (Henke) Armagost. Art attended school in Florence Station through the seventh grade and graduated from Freeport High School in 1944. In 1945-1946 he served in the U. S. Army during WWII, stationed in Chicago at Fort Sheridan. He was involved in processing the soldiers returning home from overseas. On March 6, 1949 he and Sarah Joan Palmer were married in Freeport at First Methodist Church. They had been married 52 years when she died on May 8, 2001. Art worked as the Parts Manager at Myers Ford (later Bear Country Ford and Freeport Ford), retiring in 1991 after 47 years of employment. He worked part-time for his son-in-law Mark at Winter Construction Inc. from 1996-2009, before retiring a second time. He also enjoyed baling hay and helping with harvest for his son-in-law Warren. Art loved his summer vacations with his family at Castle Rock Wisconsin camping. He also enjoyed summer weekends with their great friends at Lake Wisconsin boating and relaxing. He enjoyed owning and driving the T-Ten cars in so many parades, and the comradery of his group. His memberships included First United Methodist Church, Excelsior Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies, Tebala Shrine, Freeport Shrine Club, Freeport T-Ten Parade Unit, the Elks Lodge, the Germania Club and the Freeport Ski Club. Surviving are two daughters and their husbands: Mary & Warren Zumdahl and Beth & Mark Winter, all of Freeport. He is further survived by three grandchildren: Sarah & Christopher Whelan of Jamaica Plain, MA, Scott & Andrea Winter and Steven & Stephanie Winter, of Freeport. Art is also survived by six great-grandchildren: Henry Andrew Winter, Corrine (Cora) Elizabeth Winter and Amelia Jane Winter of Freeport; Colin Covell Whelan and Imogen Grace Whelan of Jamaica Plain, MA; and Elias Arthur Winter of Freeport. He is further survived by nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Joan and their infant daughter Connie Jo at birth. His siblings and their spouses also preceded him in death: Ruth & Lester Smith, Esther & Kenneth Philips, Elmer (Abe) & Viola Armagost and Fred (Fritz) & Winnie Armagost. A family memorial service will be held at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport with burial to follow in Cedarville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established with the Freeport Art Museum for the Freeport Art Plaza which is located on the site of his former place of employment, Myers Ford.
