Arlene Rose Donegan

December 19, 1925 — May 25, 2014

Arlene Rose Donegan, age 88 of Freeport, died Sunday May 25, 2014 peacefully at home. She was born near Woodbine, Illinois, daughter of Chester and Rose (Arnold) Pohl. She graduated from Pearl City High School, attended the University of Dubuque, and received her LPN Nursing degree in 1979. She married Raymond Donegan May 26, 1945. They raised 3 children. Arlene had a loving and generous heart and was always giving to others. She was preceded in death by her husband and sister, Betty. She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by family and friends as they recall playing cards, yard sales, her working Journal Standard and traveling. She used her personality to enliven other people through the parties, meals out, and activities with the swim group. She followed the instruction to "let your light shine" and used her talents to bless the rest of us. She is survived by her children: Stanley, Elkhart Lake, WI and Freeport, Marilyn, Loma Linda, CA, Rosalie (Jim) Carter, Jefferson City, MO, 3 grandchildren: Nathan, Jefferson City, Rachel, New York City, and Alex, Columbia, MO, cousins, nieces, and nephews, and the many friends that she considered family. She attended Trinity United Methodist Church and United Presbyterian Church. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday May 30, 2014 at United Presbyterian Church. Rev. Kathleen Luke will officiate. Visitation will be from noon until the time of service at United Presbyterian. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
