Ann Dorsey

Ann Bihl Dorsey, 84, of Freeport peacefully passed away on August 31, 2017 at Parkview Home. Born in Oak Park, IL on Mother's Day, May 14, 1933 she was the daughter of Hilding B. Bihl and Elizabeth (Hutchinson) Bihl. She was raised in Freeport and graduated from Freeport High School in 1951. Mrs. Dorsey attended the University of Iowa before marrying her high school sweetheart, Ben Dorsey, on October 25, 1953. She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church (currently United Presbyterian Church), where she frequently shared her musical talents and also served as a deacon. After working at Micro Switch, First Presbyterian Church and JC Penney, she was hired as a paralegal in 1972 by the law firm of Hunter, Hunter & Madden (and successor firms) where she was a long-time valued employee. Mrs. Dorsey was an avid reader, talented pianist and seamstress, and enjoyed word puzzles, crocheting, knitting, traveling, and playing bridge. She played golf regularly in the Park Hills Ladies Golf League, serving as a league officer for several years. She volunteered her talents and time with the Freeport Pretzel Fans Club, FHN Hospital Auxiliary, and the Freeport Senior Resource Center. Besides proudly supporting accomplishments and attending activities of her children and grandchildren, Mrs. Dorsey cherished the fellowship and friendship of her local P.E.O. Sisterhood. Mrs. Dorsey was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Dorsey, and her parents. She is survived by three children, Steven (Julie) Dorsey of Freeport, Douglas (Sheila) Dorsey of St. Louis, Missouri and Karen (David) Baran of Margate, Florida. She was a loving and proud grandma to six grandchildren, Eleanor Dorsey of Milwaukee, WI, Jessica Dorsey of Chicago, IL, Ryan and Sean Baran of Florida, and Taylor and Troy Dorsey of Missouri. She is also survived by her sister Katherine Bihl of Lexington, Kentucky, one niece Beth (Tim Thibault) Olshewsky of California and one nephew Jesse Bihl-Lubin of Florida. The funeral service for Mrs. Dorsey will be Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017 at 10:30 am at the United Presbyterian Church in Freeport. The Reverend Kathleen Luke, Pastor, will officiate. Visitation will be on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery.
