Andresito L. Petran, aged 90, of Freeport, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Walnut Acres in Freeport, Illinois. He was born on February 4, 1933 in Escalante, Negros Occidental to Filomeno Sua Petran and Candida Flores Librado. On April 11, 1959 he married Honorata Ferrolino Gerzon, who was a Public School Teacher at Our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish in Manukan, Zamboanga del Norte, Philippines.
Andy commonly known as Sir Petran was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Freeport, Illinois and held the title of a Grand Knight in a Knights of Columbus in the Manukan Chapter, Zamboanga del Norte, Philippines. Throughout his career spanning 37 years, he worked as an educator and teacher. Although he graduated a Bachelor of Science in Commerce Majoring in Accounting, his initial job was a private school teacher at San Estanislao Kostka High School where he taught Math, Algebra and Physics because of his profound love for numbers. After a few years, he earned a promotion to become the School Director.
Later on, he transitioned to Public Schools ultimately retiring as a District Supervisor. During his teaching tenure, he also took on the rule of part-time Secretary for the Rural Bank of Manukan and Manukan Cooperative. Additionally, he had annual part-time job assisting businessmen with tax filing. He was also appointed by the Municipal Mayor as the Chairman of the People's Law and Enforcement Board. After retiring, he served as the Administrative Officer of the Municipality of Manukan, Zamboanga del Norte until he made his first visit to the United States of America in the year 2000.
In his leisure time, Andy enjoyed playing "dama", a game similar to checkers and was unwavering fan of the Chicago Bulls regardless of their wins or loses.
Family held the utmost importance in Andy's life and he ensured to pray for all of his family members, especially his sons, who, in their own admissions didn't inherit their father's intelligence.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Honorata of Freeport, Illinois, and three sons: Rey and his wife, Evelyn Petran of Round Lake Beach, Illinois; Joe Glynis and his wife, Sandra Petran of Freeport, Illinois, and Andre Oscar and his wife, Fredeswinda Petran of Freeport, Illinois. He is also survived by his sisters Perla P. Lim, Rosalina P. Caberte and Rosabella P. Bennett as well as grandchildren Grant and Glenn.
The family would like to express their gratitude to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, OSF Center for Cancer Care, Crusader Clinic and Walnut Acres.
The Funeral Mass will be on Monday, September 18, 2023 @ 10:30 AM at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Freeport, Illinois. A visitation will be conducted on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home commencing with a rosary starting at 12:30 noon and the visitation will continue up to 4:00 PM.
Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens and a memorial has been established in his honor.
