Alvin "Sam" L. Kraft, 88, of Freeport, passed away Wednesday February 3, 2016 at Stephenson Nursing Center. He was born March 9, 1927 in Stephenson County, Illinois, the son of Clayton and Anna (Wittenmeyer) Kraft. Alvin married Patricia Eggemeier on March 12, 1966 in Freeport. He was the co-owner and cement contractor at K & K construction. Alvin served in the Army from 1950-1956. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, cutting wood, wrestling, western movies, especially with John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, and was an avid Chicago Cub fan. He was a member of the Freeport Moose Lodge. He was also a member of the Red Oak United Methodist Church. Family was very important to Alvin. He is survived by his wife Pat Kraft of Freeport; three sons, Ron (Suzanne) Kraft of Freeport, Randy (Susan) Kraft of Broadhead, Wisconsin, and Paul (Margaret) Kraft of Freeport; three daughters, Karen Haas of Freeport, Carla (Mike) Donaldson of Ridott, and Paula (Dennis) Kraft of Freeport; sister, Isadore "Johnnie" Hybarger of Rockford; brother-in-law, Lowell "Fred" Eggemeier of Stockton, California; 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his dog, Candy. Alvin is preceded in death by his first wife, Darlene Meeks Kraft, parents, ten brothers, three sisters, son Darrel, daughter Sheila Ann, and two grandsons. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 11:30 A.M. with a visitation from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport with Rev. Gavin Brandt officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established in his name.
