Albert Lenoir

December 3, 1930 — April 3, 2012

Albert Sydney Lenoir, was sent to heaven on April 3, 2012 at his home surrounded by loved ones. Born December 3, 1930 in Freeport, IL., the oldest son of Sara and Abraham Lenoir. Albert was blessed with wisdom and knowledge from an early age with a heart of gold to match. Albert graduated from Freeport High School in June, 1948 and from there he joined the Air Force and served six years before being honorably discharged as a staff Sergeant in 1953. Albert married the sparkle of his eyes and the love of his life Patricia St. James in 1955. To that union three children were born, Valerie (Earl) Skrine of Texas, Lorri (Kenn) Ketton of Rockford and Alan Lenoir Sr. of Freeport. In continuance of his legacy he has five grandchildren; Kyle Wyatt and Sara Lenoir Wyatt of Texas, April Lenoir of Texas, Alan Lenoir Jr. of Freeport and Kendra Ketton of Rockford. He also has two great grandchildren Destin and Alex, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and many lifelong friends. In 1955 he became the first Black Police Officer on the Freeport Police Department. During his 34 year career, Albert rose to the rank of Lieutenant up to Police Chief, making an historic achievement for an African American. Albert garnered many friendships in the community and gained respect as an honorable man which still remains today. Albert retired in 1989. Albert'™s compassion and love for people were equal to his love for Freeport. Albert was known by many nick names and titles over the years, but his greatest titles are Husband, Father, Grandfather and Brother. Actually, Albert was just an overall Hero to many that knew him. Although he is gone, his spirit will remain in our minds, hearts and souls. Greatness is something that we all try to achieve in life but Albert certainly accomplished that goal. Albert will forever be known as a most humble, wise and great man who touched our hearts. Albert is survived by five siblings; Abraham Lenoir of Freeport, Ralph (Jean) Lenoir of Freeport, Rose Marie (Oather Jr.) Taylor of Freeport, Alvin (Jean) Lenoir of Georgia and Vicki (Wiley) Kendrick of Lakeland Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Minnette Burks. Blessed are the pure in heart; for they shall see God. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday April 7, 2012 at Gospel Outreach Church. Visitation will be 9:30 A.M. until the time of service at the church. Burial will take place at Oakland Cemetery.
