Addie Lee Cain, age 88, of Madison, Wisconsin, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Sage Meadow of Middleton Assisted Living and Memory Care in Madison, WI, where she had resided since 2017. She was born on March 25, 1935 in West, Mississippi, the daughter of George and Pearl (Riley) Pearson and was the youngest of their thirteen children. Addie attended elementary school in West, MS and finished her education at Freeport High School, Freeport, Illinois.
Addie married Carlos Cain on June 27, 1954 in Freeport, Illinois. After marriage, Addie moved to Rockford, Illinois, where she resided until Carlos passed away unexpectedly on September 26, 1993, several months before their 40th wedding anniversary. In 1995, she relocated to Madison, Wisconsin, to be with her two daughters, leaving behind her home, family, old friends, neighbors, and her dear church community at St. Paul Church of God in Christ in Rockford, IL, where she was a member for many years.
In Rockford, Addie worked for the National Lock Company. Later, she worked for many years as a night shift Nursing Assistant at River Bluff Nursing Home until she retired early due to disability. In Madison, Addie volunteered and socialized daily at the Madison Senior Center for many years, and was awarded a Volunteer Appreciation Certificate by then President Barack Obama for her dedicated service. Addie was also a member of and a regular participant at Northside Christian Assembly in Madison, WI. Addie enjoyed attending church, keeping up with friends and family on the telephone, spending time with her children, painting ceramics, doing word-search puzzles, food, and gardening.
Addie is survived by her two daughters, Cheryl Cain and Janice Cain both of Madison, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Carlos Cain, Jr.; brothers: Lee, Charley, Willie, Johnnie, and Sidney Earl; sisters: Rosa, Minerava, Florence, Fannie, Georgia, Cora Pearl, and Juanita.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport, IL. Reverend Everlena Thurmond will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Freeport City Cemetery.
