Gerald 'Gerry' P. Runte, 71, of Freeport, died Thursday February 10, 2011 at FHN Memorial Hospital. Gerald was born on February 6, 1940 in Freeport, the son of I. Eugene and Gladys (Crum) Runte. Gerald married Patricia Libby in Freeport on June 24, 1961. Gerry worked on his family farm until 1999. He also worked for the Freeport Park District. A lifelong member of First Baptist Church, a member of the Stephenson County Pork Producers. He was in charge of the Hog House at the Stephenson County Fair. Gerry enjoyed fishing, camping and being in the outdoors. Survivors include; his wife, Pat Runte of Freeport, two sons; Dan Runte of St. Louis, Missouri and Mike (Terri) Runte of Freeport, two daughters, Tricia (Roger) Truckenmiller of Byron Center, Michigan and Brandy (Doug) Quinn of Freeport, two brothers, Lee (Diane) Runte of Freeport and Carl Runte of Pittsfield, Mass. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren; Gerrod, Jesse, Cayl, Micah, and Ezekiel. Preceded in death by; his parents, his son, Bob and one brother David. A celebration of Life will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday February 14, 2010 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Caleb Kolstad and Rev. Gardy Cronk. Family will meet and greet friends Monday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service at the Church. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his memory. Private family burial will be held at a later date in Cranes Grove Cemetery.
