Barbara J. Baker

Barbara Joy Baker, 91, of Freeport, Illinois passed away Friday March 22, 2024 at Freeport Memorial Hospital. She was born February 8, 1933 in Winneshiek, Illinois to Russell and Viola (Schulz) Snyder. Barbara was a graduate of Dakota High School. Her first job was in the accounting department at the W.T. Rawleigh Company in Freeport. After 11 years, Barbara became a wife and mother. She married Floyd W. Baker on August 17, 1972. Floyd passed away July 6, 2020. Barbara loved her cats, which contributed to her involvement with the Friends Forever Humane Society of Freeport. She and Floyd enjoyed country music and car shows together.

She is survived by her daughter Julie (Steven Pease) Sewell of Rockford, Illinois; two step-daughters Cindy (Larry) Vondran of Milton, Wisconsin and Susan (Duane) Steele of Cedarville, Illinois; brother Richard Snyder of Ridott, Illinois; grandchildren Betsy Gilpin, Katie Smith, Summer Flowers, Stephanie Danielson, Amy Sewell, and Zachary Sewell; 10 great-grandchildren; two nieces Marybeth (Samuel) Gingerich and Naomi (Randy) Bechtel; and best friend Doris Pittsley.

Preceding Barbara in death were her parents and husbands, Floyd Baker, Donald Moss, and Delmar Gibson.

Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Friday March 29, 2024 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport, Illinois. A visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. until the time of service. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport, Illinois. A memorial has been established for Friends Forever Humane Society in Freeport, Illinois.
