James P. Morhardt, 82, of Rockford, formerly of Freeport, died Sunday, February 7, 2010 at Alpine Fireside Nursing Center. He was born on October 28, 1927 in Carroll Co., IL., the son of Paul and Arlie (kahntlinger) Morhardt. James worked at W.T. Rawleigh printing department and at Quebecor/Kable Printing. He married Norma Jean Mapes on June 19, 1947. She died on Novermber 2, 1995. James was a member of the Rockford Eagles Club, the Mt. Morris Moose Club and Printing Press and Assoc. Union. He enjoyed fishing, boating and spending time with his great-grandchildren. Survivors include 4 granddaughters; Beth (Thomas) Hanaman of Mosinee, WI., Lori (Edie) Morhardt of Rockford, Jill (Jeff) Zuvon of Janesville WI., Tina (Justin) Franklin; one brother Gene (Barbara) Morhardt of Des Moines, IA; one sister Wanda (Bob) Holmes of Greenfield; and 8 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by one son, Larry Morhardt, his parents, two brothers and one sister. The family would like to give special thanks to the caring staff at Alpine Fireside. Funeral services will be Thursday 12 p.m. at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home Freeport. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
